Our playoff schedule has been posted. Our first round game is Thursday 6pm at CT Sportsplex #4 vs. the New England Knights. Playoffs are single elimination with the semi-finals being played on Sunday at either 2pm or 3pm and the finals to follow at 5pm.
I am very pleased with how the season has gone. We have doubled our win total from spring 2019, and have been competive in almost all of the games played this season. The kids bought in to me 100% and it was a lot of fun to watch them grow over the past two months. Every player on the roster has improved during the season, raising the team's level of play dramatically from our first game at Kiwanis to our last double header vs. the Tigers.
Throughout the season I have been on our players about "approach." Reminding them that every swing must be taken with a purpose. You must go into every at bat with a plan of attack and a goal. You must think about where the ball is going to be pitched and what you are going to do with it when it comes in. There can be no thoughtless swings. While every AB was not perfect, you could see each player learn from their mistakes, make adjustments, and improve. Fun to watch and be a part of.
Defensively we have improved our pick offs to 2B, started to learn double cuts on sure doubles, improved infield footwork and throwing mechanics, while implementing bunt defenses. Our OF play has been a huge area of improvement. Players started to get more comfortable out there, as the season went along. OF reps at practice and pre-game has certainly helped players become more aggressive with their reads and decision making.
On the mound I think we need to be more consistent pounding the strike zone, we need to develop secondary pitches that we can throw in any count, and we need to increase arm strength, and velocity. Our arm care + velocity program is for any player that wants to strengthen their arm, improve their mechanics and throw harder (pain free). This program is not just for pitchers, and I would recommend it for any player that wants to improve those areas, catchers included.
To the parents, thank you for your support and for spending your Friday nights and Sunday afternoons with the Pack. Without dedicated parents, none of what we do is possible. Looking forward to finishing the season strong. Thanks and Go Pack!
